Now Accepting Submissions for My New Distro [19 Oct 2012|07:44am]

fruityness12

Hey everyone!

I've been making zines since I was in the 8th grade, and I spent time distroing zines for almost 3 years.

I used to operate my distro under other names including Hello Saturday, and This Saturday Night, I had to stop distroing due to college, but now I have more free time to devote to a distro so I'm going to open one!

I'm looking for zines of all kinds, including music, pesonal, resource, DIY, and anything else! I'd really would love to get more music and per zines though.

Also if you have stickers, patches, books, or music, I'd love to add those to the distro too!

If you are interested you can mail your zine to:

Danielle

4535 S Lockwood Ridge Rd
Sarasota, FL 34231

If you'd like to submit an electronic copy you can email it to: moocowpressfl@gmail.com
*I can do consignment or wholesale, whichever is easiest for you!

Queerios: A Radical Queer Coloring and Activity Book [03 Jan 2012|11:05am]

piratesarah
This will be the kind of activity book I never got (but always wanted) in my early teens. I'd like to put together a coloring and activity book highlighting people who were groundbreaking to you, personally. Harvey Milk and Oscar Wilde will always have a place carved out for them. This is about exploring people who did more than admit their same-sex attraction to the rest of the world. How about what Leslie Feinberg and Kate Borenstein did for trans visability and challenging gender norms? Or how James baldwin and Audre Lorde made queer people challenge racism within the GLBT community. And, just so we're clear? You don't have to identify as queer/trans to have a hero who does.
Priority will be given to activities like dot-to-dots, paper dolls, and word searches, but coloring pages with biographies are great as well. The deadline for this is March 1st so I can have it put together by mid-to-late march, and out in the world by April. And of course, if you know someone who is interested, please feel free to pass this on to them, or repost widely.
Please send pdfs of high resolution jpegs to piratesarah@gmail.com

Call for Submissions - Once Upon A Distro [26 Oct 2011|07:51pm]

piratesarah
I've been making zines since I was 15 - more than
half of my life. At various points, zines have been a way for me to

connect to communities that I didn't have access to, as well as being an
important place for me to write about the stuff going on in my life.

I've always written zines. I've always read zines. I've always wanted
to do more. So, now I am. Once Upon a Distro is open for submissions
starting now, and will be open for purchases and things starting in
January of 2012.

What I'm looking for right now are personal zines, particularly those
by women, people of color, and GLBTQ folks. I'm not opposed to spoken
word titles and crafts, but those will not be my priority.

Please feel free to mail your zine for submission to:

Sarah Rose

201 W. Evergreen Ave #1012,

Philadelphia, PA 19118

or email with questions: piratesarah@gmail.com

themachinestops
Hey everyone! After my recent move, Black Light Diner Comics and Zines is back in business, with new zines in stock! Check them out:

SHOW AND TELL #5 (Bend, OR)

The fifth issue of Rachel Lee-Carman's personal/comics zine includes even more funny, short pieces, on such diverse topics as the insanity of Costco, serving Stephen Baldwin (and saving his receipt!), and the death of a childhood cat. There are also how-to articles on how to make a one-page mini-zine using both sides of the paper, and how to make prints using modge podge, magazines, and tape! This is such a fun, spontaneous zine, which can make you laugh one minute and cry the next. Half-size, 36 pages.

Also, in honor of International Zine Month, all orders $20 or over in the month of July will receive a free zine! Just write your preferred free zine in the comments section on Paypal, or on paper, if postal mail is the way you roll.

black light diner distro, march 2010 update [14 Mar 2010|11:02pm]

themachinestops
Hey everyone! Just a little heads-up about the new zines available at Black Light Diner Distro!

HIGH ON BURNING PHOTOGRAPHS #5/ASYLUM #1 (Pittsburgh, PA/Santa Clarita, CA)

This split between Ocean and her penpal Matt, who is incarcerated. Meeting through a prisoner book program, they compiled this zine without ever having met, and the result is a zine on a diverse number of topics. In her articles, Ocean relates an attempt by her boss to create a Jackson Pollock painting, revisits 1997, and provides haiku book reviews. Matt's contributions tend toward the philosophical, as he questions what it means for something to be counterfeit, opines on philosophical zombies, and writes a "love letter" to Folsom Prison. I haven't read very many zines by prisoners, and this one was an eye-opener, providing just a glimmer of insight about what it is actually like to be incarcerated, and the many trials Matt will have to face even when "released."

more under cut!Collapse )

Thanks for reading!
